ALEX OWENS BARITONE & LILY BEGG PIANO
Alex Owens is an emerging baritone, consort singer, arranger and composer based in Naarm (Melbourne). Passionate about art song and contemporary works, they are establishing themselves as an exciting voice in lied, chamber and operatic performance.
As a soloist, Alex has featured in performances with Victorian Opera, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the University of Melbourne, Cordelia’s Potted Operas and Kew Philharmonic Choirs, and has been a featured soloist in the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic’s Schubert Mass (2024), Australian Chamber Choir’s Faure Requiem (2022) and Polyphonic Voices’ St John Passion (2023).
Alex is a 2024 Emerging Artist with The Song Company, featured as a Young Songmaker with Songmakers Australia (2021-22), was Elyane Laussade’s Rising Star in her 2022 concert series, and has previously held scholarships with Opera Scholars Australia (2018), the Melbourne Bach Choir (2018) and Christ Church South Yarra (2021-22).
In 2017 Alex was the winner of two Austral Salon Awards at VCASS - the Outstanding Soloist Award and the Voice Award.
Lily Begg is Naarm/Melbourne-based pianist and writer. Equally at home as a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, she has a particular passion for the possibilities in collaborative piano.
Lily has been a répétiteur with the Australian Contemporary Opera Company. In 2022 she completed a répétiteur apprenticeship with the Berlin Opera Academy. She currently plays for Opera Scholars Australia and the Melbourne Chamber Choir.
Lily has performed in the Peninsula Summer Music Festival, St Paul’s August Promenade series, and the Australian Festival of Chamber Music with SPELL Quintet.
She enjoys exploring the world of Art Song through an ongoing recital collaboration with Alex. In 2023 she appeared as a concerto soloist with the Bendigo Symphony Orchestra.
As a writer, Lily has worked for a range of arts organisations and publications including Limelight magazine, the Australian National Academy of Music (ANAM), the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, and Australian Youth Orchestra. She is also an ambassador for ClassikON.
